West Nile Fever Scare A Growing Health Threat in Kerala!

West Nile Virus is raising alarms again, as Kerala reports multiple cases across the state. This potentially deadly disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and has recently been identified in 10 individuals from the districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Thrissur, with four cases specifically from Kozhikode. One patient is reportedly in serious condition and receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The Kerala Health Department is on high alert, urging all districts to be vigilant. Health Minister Veena George emphasized the critical nature of these viral infections and advised immediate medical attention if symptoms appear. Symptoms of West Nile Virus can include headache, fever, muscle aches, disorientation, memory loss, nausea, and skin rash. However, in severe cases, the virus can lead to neurological diseases and even death. Most individuals do not show any symptoms, which makes it a stealthy threat.

There is currently no specific medication or vaccine for West Nile Virus, which makes prevention crucial. The health officials are stressing the importance of controlling mosquito populations and using personal protective measures to avoid bites. The situation is under control, with those affected responding well to treatment, but the health department remains cautious and prepared for any escalation.
