UP's Districts Set for a New Identity!

In a recent development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has indicated plans to rename several districts in the state, as part of a broader initiative to "erase remnants of Mughal rule and honor Indian heritage." According to local media, the move reflects the government's ongoing efforts to align place names with local culture and history. The districts reportedly under consideration for renaming include Akbarpur, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Shahjahanpur, Ghaziabad, Firozabad, Farrukhabad, and Moradabad. This renaming campaign isn't new; since taking office in 2017, CM Yogi has renamed several prominent places and structures, notably changing Mughalsarai Railway Station to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Allahabad to Prayagraj, and Faizabad to Ayodhya. The rationale, as stated by the government, is to remove symbols of colonial or foreign rule and promote pride in native history.
