Telugu's First-Generation Newsreader Shanti Swaroop Passes Away

In a sorrowful turn of events, Shanti Swaroop, known as the first-generation newsreader of Telugu television, has passed away. Two days ago, he was admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad due to a heart attack. Today, his family members have announced his departure, marking the end of an era in the Telugu news broadcasting sector. Swaroop's death has led to an outpouring of condolences from various political figures and journalists, all sharing their sympathies with his bereaved family. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Shanti Swaroop, during his tenure as a newsreader, presented news without the aid of teleprompters, a task that requires remarkable memory and proficiency in language. He started reading news in Telugu on Doordarshan on November 14, 1983, and for nearly a decade, he continued to enlighten viewers with clear and concise news delivery without any technical support. He became an indelible mark on the television industry, remembered by generations for his contribution.

Even after retiring in 2011, Shanti Swaroop continued to be a revered figure, having received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his unparalleled service in news broadcasting. His demise is not just a loss to the Telugu media but a significant gap that can never be filled. His legacy as a legendary newsreader will be cherished and remembered forever.
