As of 10:30 AM, the NDA alliance holds a majority in 284 out of 543 seats, slightly above the majority mark of 272. But, to everyone's shock, the INDIA alliance is leading in 210 seats. Within the INDIA alliance, the Congress party alone is leading in 94 seats. In 2014, Congress secured 44 seats and in 2019, it settled with 52 seats. The current trends indicate that Congress has recovered from its past debacles and is set to increase its numbers.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Wayanad in Kerala and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, he is leading significantly in both constituencies. As per the latest figures, Rahul Gandhi's lead in Rae Bareli surpasses Modi's majority in Varanasi.
Along with Congress, DMK and SP are also performing well, boosting the INDIA alliance's overall performance. If this trend continues, the ruling NDA might face shocks in several places.
Almost all exit polls predicted a one-sided victory for NDA and suggested that the opposition would falter. However, the ground reality is different. Even if the INDIA alliance does not secure a majority, the numbers are expected to be better than predicted.
