In a press meet in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Anita announced a strict crackdown on drug and ganja-related crimes, promising significant changes within three months. She emphasized the need for immediate action to curb the rising crime rates linked to ganja in Visakhapatnam.
Minister Anita revealed that she conducted a review meeting with senior police officials to discuss strategies for eradicating ganja and drugs. She criticized the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government for not taking adequate measures against ganja. According to her, the lack of action has resulted in a higher crime rate in the city, with 1,230 individuals currently imprisoned in Visakhapatnam for ganja-related offenses.
To tackle this issue, Minister Anita has ordered the formation of a special task force. She instructed the police to take action against any groups involved in ganja-related activities and emphasized that the Home Department has been inactive for the past five years. She warned those considering entering the ganja trade to abandon their plans immediately, as strict measures will be enforced without exceptions.
The task force will intensify its operations, increasing the number of checkpoints to prevent smuggling. Minister Anita assured that efforts are underway to make Visakhapatnam a ganja-free city, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
