August 5th, 2019, marked a new chapter in Indian history. On this day, the Indian government achieved what was once deemed impossible by revoking Article 370, which granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This bold decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured that the same laws applied throughout the country, including Jammu and Kashmir. Five years have passed since this historic move, and on this occasion, Prime Minister Modi tweeted about it on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter).
In his tweet, PM Modi reflected on the significance of this decision: "It has been five years since Parliament annulled Articles 370 and 35(A), a pivotal moment in our nation's history. This decision marked the dawn of a new era of progress and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh. The Indian Constitution is now implemented in these regions, aligning with the vision of our great constitutional framers and the aspirations of every Indian," he tweeted.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the repeal of Article 370 has provided women, youth, and marginalized communities, including tribal and underprivileged groups, with security, dignity, and opportunities in various fields. He further stated that the abolition of Article 370 has curbed corruption that plagued Jammu and Kashmir for decades. PM Modi assured that the BJP-led NDA government will continue to work for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the days to come.
Meanwhile, as the five-year anniversary of Article 370's repeal is marked, the central government has undertaken crucial security measures. Precautionary steps have been taken to prevent any untoward incidents, including halting the movement of military convoys. This decision comes in response to intelligence reports indicating potential attacks on convoys carrying soldiers. 🚔
