Know Why Saryu River Is Cursed 🌊

The Sarayu River, a tributary of the Ganges, originates in Uttarakhand and flows adjacent to Ayodhya. But not everyone knows that this river is cursed. Sarayu river is holy as mentioned in Ramayana but cursed by Lord Shiva.

According to the Puranas, Sri Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, ended his life by taking a water burial in Sarayu River during his incarnation. Because of this Lord Shiva became very angry with Sarayu river. Then Sarayu cursed that the water of the river should not be used for any holy work, for offering in the temple, and not to use the water even in worship. As soon as Sarayu heard the curse given to him by Lord Shiva, Sarayu fell at Lord Shiva feet.. "Lord, what is my fault in this? It was decided at some point how Rama's incarnation would end. She pleaded with Lord Shiva saying what is the crime I have committed in this. Hearing Sarayu Devi's request, Lord Shiva said that he could not take back the curse he had given. Bathing in the water of the Sarayu river only removes the sins of the people, but does not bring merit. However, even if the river water is used for worship and worship in temples, not every fruit is obtained. At the same time it is not a sin either.. said Shiva. That's why Sarayu river water is not used during prayer and puja
