Cooking with gas is common in many households today. However, it's important to follow certain safety measures when using a gas cylinder, from getting a new connection to seasonal changes. Here are some essential tips to ensure safe usage:
Verify Your Dealer: Ensure you get your cylinder from a reputable dealer.
Check the Seal: Upon delivery, check that the cylinder has an intact company seal. Do not use the cylinder if the seal is broken.
Check the Date: Look inside the cylinder for the date:
A: January to March
B: April to June
C: July to September
D: October to December
For example, DFT-A-24 means it can be used until March 2024. Do not use expired cylinders.
Leak Test: Apply soapy water around the valve to check for leaks before use.
Proper Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation in the kitchen. Keep doors and windows open.
Keep Flammables Away: Do not keep flammable materials or clothes near the stove.
Turn Off Regulator: Always turn off the regulator when the cylinder is not in use.
Cylinder Placement: Place the cylinder in an area with good airflow. Never lay the cylinder down; always keep it upright.
Regular Maintenance: Replace the regulator and tube annually. Use only ISI-certified equipment.
Safety Precautions:
Do not tamper with the cylinder.
Close the regulator, burner knobs, and ensure proper ventilation.
Avoid using electrical switches, lights, or anything that could cause a spark.
Disconnect the electricity if there's a leak.
Keep potential fire hazards away from the cylinder.
