In the 2024 parliamentary elections, the Congress party faced its third consecutive defeat, prompting the high command to start a post-mortem analysis. The focus is on the four key states where the party underperformed, leading to their failure to secure power.
Despite Rahul Gandhi's extensive Bharat Jodo and Nyay Yatras, Congress couldn't achieve the desired success. Although the party's seat count increased from 52 to 99, it wasn't enough to gain power. The Congress high command is now analyzing the election results, particularly the performance in Karnataka, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and other crucial states.
In Telangana, Congress won only 8 out of 17 seats, and in Karnataka, where they are in power, they secured just 11 seats while BJP and JDS combined won 19. In Himachal Pradesh, where Congress is also in power, they didn't win a single seat. This poor performance in key states is seen as the primary reason for their failure to secure a majority.
The Congress high command is taking this seriously and plans to revamp leadership in these states. The party believes that if they had won the expected number of seats in these regions, they would have achieved the magic number to form the government.
