Chandipura Virus Causes Alarm in Gujarat 🦟⚠️

The Chandipura virus is causing significant concern in Gujarat, where it has led to two reported deaths, one in Sabarkantha and another recently in Vadodara. A six-year-old boy, who fell ill and was admitted to SSG Hospital, succumbed to the virus within 10 hours. His test results confirmed the presence of the Chandipura virus. This alarming situation is spreading fear as more cases are being reported in Gujarat.

Following COVID-19, the Chandipura virus is emerging as a new threat. So far, the virus has claimed the lives of 15 children across the country, with many more hospitalized. The virus has been reported in four states, with Gujarat being the most affected.

The Chandipura virus primarily spreads through insects like flies and mosquitoes. Recently, 19 flies and 4 sandflies were found in the home of a girl who contracted the virus, and these samples have been sent to the lab for testing.

Chandipura is an RNA virus transmitted by female Phlebotomine flies, and mosquitoes can also be carriers. The virus thrives in humid areas and can spread within homes. These flies often reside in cracks in the walls of mud houses or unplastered houses.

Currently, there is no vaccine for the Chandipura virus. Experts emphasize the importance of preventive measures, including keeping children away from flies and mosquitoes. Protective clothing that covers hands and legs should be worn when playing outside. Home remedies to repel flies and mosquitoes should be practiced to reduce the risk of infection.
