How to Watch Red Tails Movie Online: The Epic WWII Drama Starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard

Red Tails is a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen. A squadron of black Army pilots who served with distinction in Europe in World War II despite facing racial prejudice. The film was produced by George Lucas and it has some top notch CGI with the aerial battle scenes. The script is rather corny and flat as well as being fictionalised. The four main characters are Marty 'Easy' Julian (Nate Parker) who likes to drink a lot. His best friend, Joe 'Lightning' Little (David Oyelowo) a hotshot pilot who is having a romance with a local Italian woman. Samuel 'Joker' George (Elijah Kelley) is good for laughs. Ray 'Junior' Gannon (Tristan Wilds) is the baby of the group. The film is too uninspired, cheesy and cliched. It manages to get glorified cameos from Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The film focuses on the struggles and action of the 332nd Fighter Group in Italy and Sicily, as they escort World War II bombers across Europe and fly missions over Germany with their tails painted red, which gave them a nickname and their movie a title.

Terrence Howard (who played a Tuskegee pilot in Hart's War) and Cuba Gooding Jr. (who starred as a fighter pilot in the 1995 HBO telemovie The Tuskegee Airmen) play the mentors of the young top guns. Gooding is Maj. Emanuel Stance, a senior trainer, while Howard plays bureaucracy-fighting and racism-opposing Col. AJ Bullard (loosely based on Cmdr. Benjamin Oliver Davis Jr., one of the first few African-Americans to graduate from West Point).

When RED TAILS begins, the Tuskegee Airmen are relegated to minor support duty bombing trains and roads. Their commander, Col. Bullard (played by Terence Howard), is in Washington lobbying the Pentagon to give his men a chance to make their own contribution to the war effort. Eventually, they get new P51s and a chance to escort the B-17 bombers flying behind the enemy lines. As all this plays out, the movie focuses on the fighter pilots flying the missions, including a hotshot pilot named Joe Little, played by David Oleyowo, and their immediate superior, Major Stance, played by Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr.

Despite a few clunky moments and brief corny dialogue, RED TAILS is an exciting, inspiring, well acted war movie honoring these brave pilots who helped turn the tide during World War II. Their job was to stick by the huge bombers and draw the fire of the Germans away from them. The movie makes the point that this put their lives at extra risk, thereby saving the lives of the 10 men on each bomber saved, all of them white.*

To tell this story, RED TAILS shows the Christian faith of several of the men. It has many positive references to Jesus Christ. One of the heroes is extremely religious and committed to Jesus. Just before the biggest mission in the movie, all the pilots gather around and pray in the Name of Jesus Christ. In another scene, RED TAILS shows the white bomber officers toasting the black officers who risked their lives to protect them.

The biggest negative to RED TAILS is the PG and PG-13 foul language in the script. Also, Capt. Little has an affair with an Italian woman, Maria, played by Daniela Ruah of NCIS: LOS ANGELES, who speaks French and Italian. In one scene, the movie shows Capt. Little standing bare-chested at a window watching the rising sun as Maria sits on a couch in her nightgown. Later, however, he asks Maria to marry him, and she accepts his proposal.

Of course you have been an inspiration to all HDSLR shooters. Congratulations on the gig. BUT, Legends has THE VERY BEST filming I have EVER seen from a DSLR, and is better than several great movies. Congratulations!

Impressed with the Tuskegee Airmen's performance, the USAAF Bomber Command ask Bullard to use his fighters as escorts for Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers because of unacceptably high casualties among bomber crews. Bullard accepts on the condition his unit be supplied with the new North American P-51 Mustang.[N 2] The tails of the aircraft are painted bright red and become the unofficial name of the outfit. Noting the reckless aggression of previous escort fights, Bullard orders his pilots to stay with the bombers at all costs. Their first escort mission is a success, and the 332nd downs multiple Luftwaffe aircraft without the loss of a single bomber. Lightning even takes his chances to attack a Kriegsmarine destroyer before returning to base. However, Ray Gun is shot down and captured by a Wehrmacht patrol, while Deke crash-lands and nearly dies, but is rescued from his burning Mustang before the fuel tank explodes.

When I first started working with George he told me about the story and the initial plan was to make this epic three- or four-hour movie. We wanted to start in the United States and show the full racism these guys had to go through, then go to the heroic story that we're telling now and then come back and do the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. But it was just so unwieldy and also at that time, there was no way to have a roadshow three-hour movie in American cinemas. Every epic film had been a financial disaster, and we felt there just wasn't an audience we could get the film out to. Then we got heavily into Young Indiana Jones, which ran for three or four years, then the Star Wars Special Editions and the prequels, but throughout we did continue talking. However, once we finished Episode III we decided to go and meet people in the black community.

The movie has also been criticized for portraying the unit's commander as only having a desk job when the actual commander, Lt. Col. (later Gen.) Benjamin O. Davis Jr. flew many combat missions (because both black and white commanders needed such on-the-job training).[58]

Red Tails was released on DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo, as well as via digital download, on May 22, 2012. It topped DVD and Blu-ray sale charts during its first week of release.[59] The Blu-ray/DVD combo includes Double Victory, a companion documentary to the film that debuted on January 13, 2012 on H2. It details the full real-life story of the Tuskegee Airmen, and includes interviews with many of the surviving members.[60][61] The Blu-ray/DVD combo also includes several featurettes that focus on the film's cast and crew. The only bonus feature included on the regular DVD edition is a series of "highlights" from Double Victory.

The film had a presence at 2011's New York Comic Con; Lucasfilm sponsored a panel featuring many of the cast and crew, as well as a P-51 flight simulator.[62] The P-51 Mustang flown in Red Tails also became a free add-on for Microsoft Flight, as of 2012, and can be downloaded from Microsoft's Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
